Winston & I Album Cover
A winning album cover and CD package designed for Juno award winning Métis artist Brianna Lizotte.
The Context
Winston & I is a deeply personal album reflecting Brianna Lizotte’s last seven years of music, growth, and identity as a Métis artist.
This project was part of a competitive typography course where one student’s design would be selected as the official album artwork for a local musician. My concept was chosen and became the final, publicly released CD packaging.

The Constraints
The design needed to reflect Brianna’s personal narrative and cultural roots without feeling literal or decorative.
All typography and illustration had to function consistently across the full CD package, not just the cover.
The final output had to meet professional print and packaging standards, as it would be manufactured and sold.
The Exploration
In my listening sessions to her music, early sketches explored symbolism tied to time, memory, and transition, which led to the recurring sunset motif representing both musical progression and personal closure.I illustrated every visual element by hand and paired it with expressive typography that balanced warmth, legibility, and emotional tone.
Each panel of the CD package was treated as part of a continuous story rather than isolated layouts.

Front Cover
The front cover introduces the album’s emotional core through a sunset silhouette and hand-drawn illustration, setting a reflective, personal tone that mirrors the music’s journey.

Back Cover
The back cover presents the tracklist arranged in a subtle arc, visually echoing the setting sun motif while balancing readability with narrative symbolism.

CD Disc
The CD design extends the cover artwork onto the disc itself, maintaining visual continuity and reinforcing the album’s identity as a cohesive, intentional object.

Insert - Cover Spread
The outer booklet spread showcases close-up illustrations of the fiddle and performer’s hands, grounding the album in craft, touch, and the physical act of music-making.

The Validation
“
The setting sun in the design to me represents two things: a visual telling of each tune, starting with high energy to a somber ending, and being the ending of a chapter in my life as a musician. From the colour palette to the handwritten lettering, Andre perfectly executed my wants and needs for Winston & I in a professional and creative manner.
”
The final cover translated Brianna’s deeply personal narrative into a cohesive visual identity that resonated with both the artist and her audience.
The design aligned seamlessly with her creative vision and guidelines, eliminating uncertainty and accelerating confidence in the final outcome.
